Worship, like love, is an attitude of the heart.
It means we have decided to make God first and make Him Ruler of our lives.
One day Satan tried to get Jesus not to obey the first commandment. (Mt. 4:4-10). This is the meaning of the first commandment. It is not enough to stop praying to the false gods such as money, sex, and power. We must know and worship the true God who lives in heaven.
Forty years ago (60's) there were people called "flower children" or "hippies". They were young people with old clothes and long hair. Today not many people admire them. However, in a way, they were right. They did not accept the worship of money and other material things. That was good. So why did their movement fail? It failed because they tried to take away a false god which is money without replacing it with the true God.
At the same time, communism was also popular. Communism teaches that it is good to help other people and share what we have. This is similar tothe teaching of Jesus.
But communism also failed. Why? Why did it does not produce the ideal society it promised? It failed for the same reason the hippie movement failed.
It told people they needed to change. However, it did not connect them with God who has the power to change them.
